Terms of service

1. Who we are

Walkie Link (the "Service"), available at walkielink.app, is provided by iDev S.r.l., VAT number 02656830185, with registered office at Via Luigi Goia 102, 27036 Mortara (PV), Italia ("iDev" or "we"). These Terms of service govern the use of the Service. By using Walkie Link you accept them and confirm that you have read the Privacy notice.

2. The Service

Walkie Link lets you chat, voice messages included, with one person or a small group and exchange files, without an account. In short:

  • your personal code and the keys that protect it are created and kept only in your browser;
  • messages and files travel directly between devices whenever possible;
  • when a direct connection is not possible, chat messages alone (group ones included), short voice messages (up to 30 seconds, within daily limits) and the technical data groups need in order to work may go through our server, encrypted so that nobody, not even we, can read or listen to them; you can turn this off in Settings;
  • files never go through our server: without a direct connection they cannot be sent; longer voice messages wait for the direct connection;
  • messages are exchanged only while both of you have Walkie Link open: there is no inbox where they wait;
  • history, contacts and received files stay only on your devices.

3. Minimum age

You must be at least 14 years old to use Walkie Link. If the law of the country where you live requires a higher age to use services like this on your own, you must be that age or have the consent of the person with parental responsibility for you. On first launch we ask you to declare your age: we cannot verify it, because we do not collect data that identifies you.

4. Your code and backup

Your personal code is not an account: we have no copy of your keys and cannot recover them. You are responsible for keeping your device, your backup file and the passphrase that protects it safe: anyone with access to your browser, or to your backup file together with its passphrase, can use your code. If you clear your browser data without a backup, your code, contacts and history are lost for good.

5. Free service, provided "as is"

Walkie Link is free and provided "as is" and "as available". We do our best to make it work well, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, nor that two devices will always manage to connect: some networks do not allow it. To protect the Service from abuse, the server applies usage limits, for example on how often requests are made and on the volume of messages going through the server. Do not rely on Walkie Link as your only means for urgent or emergency communications, nor as the only copy of your files.

6. Permitted and prohibited uses

You may use Walkie Link only for lawful purposes and in respect of the rights of others. In particular, you must not use it to:

  • exchange or spread illegal content, including child sexual abuse material and content inciting terrorism, violence or hatred;
  • threaten, harass, stalk, blackmail or defame other people;
  • send spam, unsolicited commercial communications or chain messages;
  • spread viruses, malicious software or deceptive files, commit fraud or steal data (for example by phishing);
  • infringe copyright, trademarks, trade secrets or other third-party rights;
  • process other people's personal data unlawfully, or impersonate someone else.

The following are also prohibited, because they harm the Service and the people who use it:

  • accessing the Walkie Link server with programs, apps or scripts other than the official application served from walkielink.app, or through third-party sites;
  • automating the use of the Service (bots, automated sending, automated creation of codes);
  • using the connection server, or the service that tells devices their public address, for other apps or third-party services;
  • circumventing or attempting to circumvent usage limits and anti-abuse measures, overloading the Service or attempting unauthorised access to our systems;
  • using our server to transfer files or any data other than chat messages, including group ones, short voice messages and the technical data groups need in order to work.

There is no public interface for developers: how the server works may change at any time without notice. This does not affect the rights the law grants to every user of a program in any case. If you find a security problem, write to us at info@walkielink.app: reports made in good faith are welcome.

7. Content and user responsibility

You alone are responsible for the messages (voice messages included) and files you send and for how you use those you receive. Content travels encrypted between devices: iDev does not see, store, check or moderate it. Your content remains yours: we acquire no rights over it. Be careful with the files you receive and only open them if you trust the sender. If someone bothers you, you can block them in the app; to report abuse, see the "Contacts and abuse reports" page.

8. Software and name of the Service

The Walkie Link software, its design and the name "Walkie Link" belong to iDev, except for third-party components, which are subject to their own licences. We grant you a personal, free, non-exclusive and revocable right to use the application through your browser, in accordance with these Terms.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, iDev is not liable for damage arising from: interruptions, slowdowns or malfunctions of the Service; devices failing to connect; loss of data kept on your device (code, contacts, history, files); content and behaviour of other users; use of the Service in breach of these Terms. This limitation does not apply to damage caused by wilful misconduct or gross negligence of iDev, to personal injury, or to other cases where the law does not allow liability to be excluded or limited. If you use Walkie Link as a consumer, all the rights granted to you by the Italian Consumer Code (Legislative Decree 206/2005) and other mandatory rules remain unaffected.

10. Suspension and termination

We may change, suspend or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time, also without notice when necessary for technical, security or legal reasons. We may restrict access to the Service for anyone who breaches these Terms, as far as technically possible. You can stop using Walkie Link whenever you want: to delete your data, use "Delete everything" in Settings or clear the site data in your browser.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms, for example for new features or changes in the law. The version in force is always on this page, with the date of the last update; important changes will be clearly announced before they apply. If you keep using the Service after the changes have come into force, you accept them; if you do not accept them, you can stop using it.

12. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, the court of the place where you reside or are domiciled has jurisdiction, if it is in Italy, and the mandatory protections of the law of the European Union country where you habitually reside remain unaffected. In all other cases, the courts of the place where iDev has its registered office have exclusive jurisdiction.
